Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), which has opened disciplinary proceedings following the veteran forward’s decision to leave the national team camp.
The 41-year-old had already apologised to Portugal supporters while publicly criticising head coach Jorge Jesus over the circumstances that led to his departure.
Ronaldo said he would accept any suspension imposed on him as a result of the incident.
According to Portuguese newspaper *A Bola*, the FPF confirmed that disciplinary proceedings are now under way and that Ronaldo has been placed under a preventive suspension while the case is examined.
Disagreement with Jorge Jesus
The dispute reportedly began over Ronaldo’s playing time during Portugal’s recent international fixtures.
Ronaldo said he and Jesus had previously agreed on a plan that would allow him to miss matches against Norway and Denmark as part of managing his fitness. However, he claimed the situation changed on the day of the Norway match when he was told he could feature for around 30 minutes.
Ronaldo said he began warming up during the second half but was ultimately not brought into the match. He later accused Jesus of failing to follow through on what they had agreed.
The disagreement eventually escalated, with Ronaldo leaving the Portugal camp in Copenhagen ahead of the Nations League fixture against Denmark.
### Portugal Continue Winning Without Ronaldo
Despite the controversy surrounding their captain, Portugal enjoyed a successful run of results. Ronaldo was either absent or remained an unused substitute as Portugal won all three matches.
Gonçalo Ramos took advantage of the opportunity in attack, scoring three goals and strengthening his case for a bigger role in the national team.
### Ronaldo Takes His Case Public
Following the international break, Ronaldo addressed the situation in a lengthy Instagram post shared with his enormous social-media following.
The forward called on Jesus to acknowledge that asking him to warm up without eventually bringing him onto the pitch against Norway had been a mistake.
Jesus, however, did not publicly accept that he had made an error.
The disciplinary process now leaves uncertainty over Ronaldo’s immediate future with Portugal. The federation will have to determine whether further punishment is necessary and when the country's record-breaking forward will be eligible to return to the national team.
